I wanted you guys to be aware of a potential issue with the plastic intake manifold on our 1.4L.
I had a customer come from 9hrs away for some performance work last weekend. In the process of going over his car, I performed a boost leak test and found that part of his intake manifold had split apart at the seam. He had been driving like this for no telling how long. He had no check engine lights, but had mentioned discovering an oily residue on the backside of the engine that he'd not been able to place.
We were able to repair the intake manifold, by thoroughly cleaning the area, applying JB Kwick Weld, and clamping the seam back together. After letting it cure overnight(poor bastard slept on the shop couch), I pressure tested it to 30psi for approximately 20min. The intake repair was a success.
