Motivation for this mod began with my drivetrain warranty expiring and installing a shiny new BNR turbo. I decided to not leave the reliability of my motor to the precarious 10 cent rubber poppers in the stock intake manifold.
There are many helpful resources to reference on the forums about PCV and PCV related issues. The major issue is the orange check valve failing, when it does there is no division between the intake manifold and the crankcase gases.
After reading a great deal around the web and talking to a number of companies, the most helpful resources were Preloader’s PCV explanations, XtremeRevolution on cruze talk for PCV writeups. Even these writeups have some misinformation, but it doesn't take away from their pioneering efforts. Other great resources were MPFab's explanation of turbo seals and the BPV solenoid, Flyer’s crankcase breather system, and discussions over beer with EPYON96R. The yellowbullet forums were invaluable for crankcase ventilation ideas which I hope to address later on.
The first portion of this mod is to address issues by re-engineering the stock PCV system to a more reliable system. This will keep the PCV system the same mechanism of action as stock, while giving more reliability and cheaper maintenance than the orange check valves/non-return valves can offer. This should be a proper fix for both the faulty PCV system, as well as getting a fresh vacuum source to the BPV solenoid. If you chose to bypass the bypass solenoid, you will not need to run a T-joint in the crankcase ventilation line to a secondary vacuum canister.
Preliminary drawings, some materials and setup have changed, and will change as this progresses:
