I've had my 2014 Sonic 1.4 LT for a couple of weeks now (has 38,000 on it) and am very happy with it. However, one thing is kind of bugging me so I made an appointment today with a Chevrolet dealer to look at it later this week. If I lift the hood while the engine is hot (just after shutting it down or with it hot and still running), I get a faint whiff of coolant. It's not a strong smell and based on the "sniff test" it seems to be coming from the small upper hose that attaches to the coolant tank. No leaks that I can see (took a close look around the water pump, radiator & thermostat) and the coolant level has not gone down at all. Again, the smell is faint and seems to be coming right from the top of the tank. Car runs fine, heat is good, no coolant smell inside the car, no codes or anything else. My appointment for the car later this week will check everything over and take a close look at the water pump seeing as it has the extended warranty anyways. Now it could just be the design of the tank and maybe it vents off some fumes. Or maybe the hoses give off a smell as they heat up. If that's the case I'm fine with it seeing as the smell is faint and only noticeable when you open the hood. I guess my question is is if this is normal? Is it a smell anyone else has ever noticed?
