Help!! Short shifter installed, no 5th, 6th, or reverse.

Hi all, really need some help with this because I'm not too sure whats gone wrong. Installed my Mtech short shifter this morning and now it seems I can only access 1st-4th gear. No reverse, 5th, or 6th. I can halfway get it to reverse but it just pops back into first. Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing as I have to be at work in a few hours!

All i can think is to get it back to neutral and pop it off/re-set the shift arm, might be misaligned by a tooth in one direction. pup it off in neutral, fit it just enough to run through the gears, adjust if you have to before tightening the nut.

That was my first thought as well... Spent about two hours realigning it in every which way but it just ended up locking it into one gear or it could shift through 1-4. The shifter arm will only click into three directions when trying to align it so I feel as though I'm missing a big factor to it...

you MIGHT look into the shifter boot area. The shifter boot comes out of it's position real easily. then you can PULL the portion of the center console which holds the shifter boot in position. Just pull it upwards and back toward the rear of the car.
Under that is a shaped foam piece, pull it out, and then you'll see the two shifter cables. Ensure both are in their cradle...
I doubt that's it, but if that pops out, you'll get NO gears, just forward & back motion...

So its looking like I need to readjust my shifter cables under the gear shifter.. Does anyone know the procedure to do this? I can see the two cables attached to the bottom of the shifter but I'm not sure how to go about readjusting them.

What's the actual problem? You can't go into a gear, like you feel a wall there or it just flaps in but it doesn't actually go into gear. If it just flops in but you don't go into gear it's literally just pulling up on the boot and moving stuff out of the way to pop a clip back in just like Natesriv said. If it's the other then make sure you installed it the right way. The protrusion is supposed to be towards the car I'm pretty sure. If you feel a wall it might be because it's hitting something. I hope it's the floppy shifter though.

Its definitely a wall feeling while trying to push the gear shifter right to access 5th & 6th, and I can get halfway into reverse but it just pops it back into 1st. Im 99% sure its on there correctly as it shifts great 1-4. I followed the instructions on BNR's website to install it, so I'm really confused as to where I went wrong

Check the black service lockout pin (black t-handle) on the front of the shift connection right below where the shift level attaches to the trans. I accidentally pushed mine in and spent over an hour scratching my head, couldnt get it to shift into some gears as well.

Is this the pin circled in the bottom of the picture?

Yes, and it's pressed in aka in the service lockout position. Pull it out (the side clips will latch at the end of the metal piece) and you should have all gears.

Glad you got it working man, I banged my head against the wall for a LONG time before I pulled the schematics and pulled the handle out and voila!

Yea, small thing but really messes you up once you finish up. MTech should update their instructions to mention this...

I have a 2015 LTZ hatch with 1.4/6 speed.
I just ordered the shifter bushings, short shifter and cable clamp. I'm mechanically capable of performing many tasks. The bushings on the shifter is straight forward.
I'm concerned about any issues with installing the shifter cable clamp and the short shifter. I have downloaded the installation paperwork.
The clamp and bushings are from ZZPerformance and the short shifter is from 4H-Tech L shaped M32 newer type as listed.

Any suggestions or heads up that's not covered in the installation paperwork would be appreciated.

To pry off the stock shifter arm use a 15mm or so open wrench to hook under it and push it up. Otherwise you will be fighting it for half an hour or so. Not that i would know........ Just dont push to hard on plastic pieces
