Hi all,

I am having the same code P0171 and CEL on as well. I changed the purge valve, but the CEL came back on after changing the purge valve and clearing the codes. I checked the air intake tube for cracks, and everything seems fine. The chevy dealership also checked and they could not determine the reason for the codes. Any ideas?

Did you also get the P0496 Evaporative Emission System High Purge Flow ?

The P0171 will come up for a variety of issues. It is a bit of a "catch all" code.

Maybe check some of these YouTubes. . .

seems like it's neither of those parts causing the issue. have the new purge valve installed and intake tubing. still have the CEL and P0171. It's hard to determine the root cause like you said.

Valve Cover Integral PCV Valve can also be suspect.

That may be an issue, though mostly only on the 1.4L engine. This thread was related to the 1.8L engine.

Identical type of PVC in 1.8 also. I just posted that because it had good detail on how to check it for failure.

I would say similar, but not identical. And the PCV fail has been much more chronic on the 1.4L. The rubber diaphragm often cracks and leaks. Plus, is on opposite side of the valve cover compared to the 1.8L.

But, yes, if the 1.8L did have a similar fail it would likely give a P0171 code as well. Actually, many things that can cause a vacuum leak will give that code.

Everyone I know that owns a 1.4 or 1.8 before 75,000 has had failure...Too bad they use that integral design

Hmmm. . . daughter has a 2014 1.8L with auto she bought new in July 2014 and now 76,000 miles. So far no PCV issue. Just the purge valve solenoid, and two other of the usual Sonic issues.

Also, another member here with over 100,000 miles and no mention of the PCV.

Also, I do not believe the 1.8L had the problematic "check valve" that causes the 1.4L turbo PCV fails. The 1.8L has an entirely different valve cover design.

Every search on Google for Sonic PCV problems seems come up with the 1.4L last I checked.
