First off, shout out to Jerry from BNRacing for working with me and tweaking the tune to get it just right. Second- holy nut, this thing is so much more fun to drive now!
I cannot put a comparison between a Trifecta tune and the BNR tune because I had a Diablosport inTune handheld from a previous vehicle. The unit contains a canned ('blanket' config for every vehicle) tune and a custom tune (DiabLEW Tune) specific to my Silverado (w/ mods) and knew the tremendous difference with that, so once I found out BNR was doing customs, I was ecstatic.
Quick Overview:
Loading the tune took about 10-15 minutes and came with three options:
Diablo Tune - For performance and MPG (93+ Octane)
91 Octane - Self explanatory
MPG Saver - Not meant for towing
Custom Tune** - this only pops up after you load a custom tune.
It will, by default, save a backup of the "stock" tune, which you can flash back to at any time. From my experience in the past, the device is locked to one vehicle, so you can't just go tuning every Sonic you see but putting the stock tune back on "unlocks" the device for other vehicles.
Now with that being said, the inTune is a great little device to give you the canned tune and unlock this vehicles' 'stock-potential'. However: even something as common and a CAI or exhaust is enough to take it one-step further.
Thats where BNR stepped in. And that's when this little 5-door really started to impress me. Faster acceleration, either from a dead stop or rolling on the highway, louder noises coming from the engine bay (yes, I'm one of those kinds that loves the sound of a BOV), and undeniably witchcraft: better MPG, all unleashed via their tune.
I don't have any connections to a dyno in my new area, but if I ever get the chance I will run it get some numbers for power, but I can say that I average 40 MPG on the highway and 36 around town. Those numbers are easily achieved if you can fight the inner demons from keeping the pedal on the floor. Keeping it entertaining: 36 highway / 34 town.
Overall I was impressed with the inTune from the start, but BNR really blew me away with what they can do with the 1.4L turbo. A+ rating for the company as a whole, especially Jerry, because I was in the process of moving to a new home during this whole ordeal and their patience was exceptional. Looking forward to doing business with them again in the future.
Once I find where my video camera is packed to I will put together a video showing how to flash a tune. More updates to come.
