I've been reading this site for a long time, even before I ordered my car in the fall of 2011. Been busy living the active duty life, moved around the country a couple times, and decided to start working on the car a while ago. I drove it stock for a year. The various recalls that plagued the first round of cars was annoying, but overall its been a great little car and I'm just now starting to get serious with mods.
Decided to start the build thread now after finishing my plasti dip project and installing my tune.
About the tune, I know its been said before (I read all 180 billion pages on the thread before I bought it) but the guys at BNR and Trifecta are great. I had everything set up, installed all the drivers, restarted the computer, plugged it in and ran a code check. The cable connected to the car right away, so I went ahead and tried to tune. Got an “invalid calibration file” error. Freaked out a little bit. Restarted everything, reinstalled everything, still nothing.
BNR told me to download the tune from a direct link they sent me because apparently gmail corrupts the tune files occasionally. So I tried that, still nothing. This was around midnight and BNR was still emailing me back and forth.
The next day after work I sent some logs in and somehow the tune they sent me originally was jacked, they sent me a new file that was about 3 times larger in size than the first one they sent. Somewhere in the process the file got corrupted or chopped and by the time it got to BNR and then to me it was bad. But they had it right within 24 hours and I am tuned.
And if you’re on the fence...just order it already. The car pulls so much more aggressively. There is just a surge of rawr that comes out of this little beast. You can feel it, you can hear it, just buy it.
Appearance mods:
-Door sill plates
-Aluminum pedal covers
-20% tint
-Lots o' plasti dip
Other mods:
-DDMworks shifter bushings
-K&N drop in filter (SAB like a boss)
-Ultragauge
-Trifecta tune
Future plans:
-TIRES
-Exhaust system: I've researched this a lot on the forums and youtube and other sites. I can't decide what to buy. This is our road trip car (hundreds of miles at a time) as well as my daily driver so I really can't deal with any drone. I also told myself I wasn't going to deep dive on this car, I blame these forums. Right now the borla system is my top choice because I've heard it's quieter with the resonator and the muffler. Feel free to weigh in here. I want something that can provide real flow results without blaring through my neighborhood like a POS civic or giving me a brain tumor after a few hours.
