Here's the back story.....
When I went hunting for a car, new or used, I figured I could afford $16,000. So, that was my target. New or Used.
First car I tried was a Sonic LT Hatch 1.8L Auto, only because the Chevy Dealer was the closest dealership to my house. From my research, I had the Kia Soul as my first choice. That Sonic fit like a glove.
2nd Car I tried was a Sonic LT Sedan 1.4L Manual. I was told it was more powerful, and I'd really like it. But to be honest, I thought they were both strong and comfortable during the test drive, so I couldn't see a reason to fork out the extra $800.00 for a turbo.
I REALLY loved the manual. Reminded me of my ole Red 67 Firebird convertible. Awesome times riding down Hampton Beach with my Daughter, as we counted how many times people would yell "Nice Car!!....
Back to the Sonic. SO, the morning after test driving the manual, my right breast and left hip were SO sore that I decided I was too out of shape for the manual. I decided I wanted a 1.8L Auto in a Hatch. The hatch because I was coming from a Grand Cherokee, so I still wanted to have storage and liked the hatch's layout. But, the prices were a little off my target ($16,000).
I tried practically every other car out there under 25K. NOTHING felt as comfortable/practical/fun for me as the Sonic. And they were all just a little out of my price range, including a new Sonic. I wanted payments under $300 a month, so I kept looking.
I found a few used Sonics in my price range, but up close, they showed some signs of damage or excessive wear.
It was February 27th and GM had a rebate and Presidents day discount going til the end of the month, so I decided to ride around to different dealers one last time. Just to see if I could find a Dealer selling close to what I really wanted.
THEN, I saw it.....
2013 Sonic LT Hatchback - RED, Auto, 1.4L Turbo, with a banner on the side.... $15,999.00. It only had around 60 miles on it.
OH-MY-GAWD.
I was shaking. I tried to play it cool. I drove it. LOVED IT. Then I took a spark out, just to calm down. Ewww. I didn't go 100 ft before I turned around and said I'd take the Sonic. I took it for a 2nd test drive to pick up my pre-approved bank check and owned it within the hour.
It was a Dealership with a small lot, and they were getting in a bunch of NEW 2015 Models, so they wanted to move their last 2013 off the lot.
I couldn't believe I hit my target, and EXACTLY what I wanted. In the color I wanted and with remote start. Having the 1.4L turbo to boot, and Mylink too? That was icing on the cake.
I had a few issues since owning it. mostly caused by one inept dealership (not the one I purchased from), but that all seems to be over (*knocks on wood).
I am surprised, and sometimes MAD when I read all the reports on cars out there. I feel the Sonic doesn't get the recognition or praise it deserves.
I've owned this car for;
2 years, 3 months, 12 days
118 weeks and 6 days
832 days
19,968 hours
1,198,080 minutes
71,884,800 seconds
And I still love this thing.
