Before anyone jumps into the hype wagon and starts hugging their sonics like their kid who's about to do a surgery , this project is still under planning and there are tons of problems to address with you , scientists....so here's a Q&A :
Q : What are you talking about?
A : I have a 1.6 Sonic which i plan on retrofitting a turbo in.
Q : A Turbo? in a 1.6? impossible!
A : it is for now, the 1.6 Engine is a Opel-design A16XER and there's the Corsa OPC which has a A16LER , basically the same engine except bigger injectors, a different ECU map and (obviously) a Turbo.
Q : THAT'S PERFECT ! WHERE DO I SIGN IN?
A : not yet, this project might become a whole year project due to personal issues, i might sell my baby sonic on the way before i even start it but i sure hope i don't have to resolve to the latter.
Q : but my Sonic has a 1.8
A : i haven't looked into the A18XER too much and my guess is that they have the same exhaust manifold, I'll do some research if someone requested.
Q : How much power you aim for?
A : Same as the Opel Corsa OPC , 200+ hp
Q : COOL! are you gonna dress it like it's fast?
A : No, i plan on keeping exterior look as stock as possible (including engine bay)
Q : What about the tranny?
A : Still a work in progress, the Stock tranny has a bit-slippery clutch and it' awful.
Q : IS IT GONNA BE LOUD?
A : Still a work in progress, either i'll keep the stock exhaust or i'll get something similar to this Vauxhall Corsa E VXR Performance Exhaust Systems by Cobra Sport
Q : Tires? Suspension?
A : Maybe semi-Slick tires on stock rims, suspension stays
Q : Are you gonna update us?
A : Yes, in this thread
Q : But it's crammed there !
A : Removing the useless radiator fan and replace it with low-profile aftermarket one, the Turbo cooler will sit in front of it (there's space and mounting place there) the Cat will go, will get stock air inlet, throttle body and air box from the Opel Astra Turbo (It fit's with no modifications) , new MAF sensor , stock link hoses ,...etc
Q : what about the Oil lines for the Turbo?
A : I haven't dug that deep, if there's no oil lines will' have to modify them by making a third valve from the oil pressure sensor, and return line will be linked to the sump somehow...if there's more room i'll add a turbo oil cooler
Q : Can i ask questions?
A : Um...yeah? i might've missed few details and that's why i'm posting this here, i want you guys to tell me what i'm missing here (Except the above and money to throw) because i'm sure this will turn out to be a big achievement.
