Hi everyone... thought I'd chime in with a little review of my vehicle for anyone that might be browsing the forums thinking about purchasing a sonic...
I traded down from a GMC pickup looking for something more economical; I've had the car for about a month and a half now. My 2017 LT-RS came with the 1.8 engine, convenience pkg, the driver confidence pkg, and black bowties.
I was disappointed that the dealership didn't have any turbo sonics in stock when I went, but the promotion they had going on was too good to pass up, so I went with this kinetic blue sonic.
I was pleasantly surprised about the performance and handling of the car. It has way more oomph than I expected. Even with a car full of passengers, I didn't feel like the performance suffered much. For around town driving I found the handling and suspension to be just fine; better than I expected. Though folks that really like to push their cars would prob prefer a slightly stiffer suspension. I'm not sure if the RS has a different suspension; nothing on the window sticker regarding suspension.
Interior is nice; seats are comfortable and overall its much better than economical cars of years past. The extra storage compartment above the glovebox is nice, specially since there is no center console storage. Trunk is a good size too; though the rubber trunk mat was a tad too small (read other posts regarding this). I got a piece of foam, cut it 3" square by 38" or so, spray painted it black and put in the back of the trunk, and now that mat/tray stays nicely in place.
Which leads to my only complaint about the sonic; fit and finish... I know this is an economical car, but still, if you're buying a brand new car from the dealership, theres a few things you expect. In my car, the black b-pillar tape had bubbles, and the rear door tape went higher than the front doors. Then one of the door handles had a little "blob", which I thought was a squished dead bug or something and when I rubbed it off; turned out it was a small blob of paint, and left a nice little hole on the finish on the handle (more or less fixed this with some touch up paint). Lastly I noticed the gap between the tail lights and trunk is wider on one side than the other. I know every car is going to have something, but still...
Overall though i'm very happy with the purchase, and the car is more fun to drive than I expected. Hopefully it will provide many years of dependable service
