Well, I replaced the air flow hose and mass air flow sensor and the car was sounded better than it has in almost a year....no knocking or sputtering... until I drove it down the street.
It stalled out then died. Tried to start it for several minutes, wouldn't start. Luckily, about a year ago I bought a reader for the car codes off amazon. I had to clear the codes to get it to start again. Then I was able to drive it back to the house- at 3 miles an hour. Luckily I was one block away.
Read the codes and it said there was a power loss.
So I checked all the screws on the hose and sensor to make sure they were tight. All seemed to be good, and re-checked youtube to see what it says were the issues. It said to check the oil cap and gas cap, (air pressure I guess) both were on tight.
I cleared the codes again and was able to start it and it idled properly. No idea what happened. Reved the engine and it wouldn't go past 3000 rpm. I let it idle for a few minutes, it stayed at the same RPM and no odd noises, no knocking, no skips. So I got brave and drove it up and down the street - a few houses away only. It ran ok, no stalls, no sputters, smooth sound. But, it wouldn't go past 35 mph.
So, after trying to look for the issues Im having on youtube and google, and finding nothing, I cant figure out whats wrong.
Cant see how replacing an air flow hose and a sensor would shut the power down on the car. Only thing I can think of is 1. the screw on the clamp near the bottom of the air flow hose isn't on as tight as it should be- its hard to reach, and 2. I had to cut the air flow hose when I got down to the bottom of it and perhaps a piece of rubber fell into the air flow valve, but I don't remember seeing any and I was very careful not to drop any.
Any ideas...?
