Tools/Materials Needed
Utility knife with clean sharp blade
Sandpaper
Spray paint
Clearcoat
Super glue
Blue painters tape
Wax paper
Drill
7/32” drill bit
Piece of wood (preferably a 2x4)
Photocopy of the front turbo emblem (get that later)
Screw driver
thread
scissors
Turbo front and back 3D prints
2 Screws and 2 nuts (screw head cannot be bigger than 5/16” and the screw has to be able to fit into a 1/8” hole)
Picture
I have already made two of these (one was placed on a sonic, the other on an equinox). I will not be spray painting in some of the pictures but you should.
Turbofront=turbo.sdl
Turboback=turbo back fin.sdl
I will be using one of the bad prints and a piece of cardboard.
Procedure
1-Get the materials you need
For the screws and nuts, I got them at Home Depot. There are 6 screws and six nuts. They are Everbilt #8-32x1-1/2in machine screws. SKU 328625.
The 3D prints are 3”x3/4”x1/4” You will download the turbo.sdl and turbobackfin.sdl files. The files are in inches. If you have a very good 3D printer, then you could use that to print it. If you don’t, I would find a UPS store that has one. The store that I got mine at was at 1042 1042 Maple Avenue Lisle, IL 60532. It came out very good. It is not the yellow one that I am using for this post.
Picture
The spray paint that I used was Rust-Oleum. The one color you will need is black. The spray paint that I used was 248932 Gloss Black. The other colors depend on what you want. The ones that I used was 7762830 Sunrise Red and 7718830 Chrome. You could find these at Home Depot.
The clear coat that I used was Dupli-Color. It is DAL1695 Acrylic Lacquer Clearcoat. I got this from O’Reilly Auto Parts.
The painters tape that works the best is ScotchBlue. Frog tape does not turn out that good. You could get it at Home Depot as well.
You are going to need to get super glue, preferably one that you are able to control.
Get anything else that you will need.
2-Super glue the nuts onto the turboback
This is the solid rectangle piece. Take one of the nuts and put some glue on the top of it.
Picture
Picture
Line it up with the hole and put it down. Immediately take the screw and make sure it is able to screw into the nut without any resistance. Take the screw out and do the same for the other nut.
Picture
Once done, put some more glue around the sides of the nuts and let it dry.
Picture
3-Sand the turbofront if needed
Take some sand paper and clean up the turbofront letters.
4-Photocopy the turbofront
Make a copy of the turbofront
Picture
5-Spraypaint the turboback, turbofront, and screws with black paint
Take some tape and cover the tips of the screws. Take your drill and make 2 holes into the piece of wood. Do not go all the way through. Put the screws into those holes.
Picture
Take some tape and cover the holes on the nuts.
Picture
Take the turboback, turbofront, and the screws outside. Spray paint it little by little. Once it dries, take the tape off and for the truboback, lightly spray paint the inside of the nuts. Let it fully dry.
6-Spraypaint the trubofront red
Take the turbofront and spray paint the front side (the side with the words turbo on it) red. Let it fully dry.
7-Spraypaint the sides of the turbofront chrome
Take your wax paper and put the tape on it. Take the photocopy and put it on top of the tape.
Picture
Take your utility knife and start cutting out the letters.
Picture
Put the letters onto the turbofront letters. Once done, take your chrome spray paint and spray paint it. Once done, take the letters off and put into the wax paper. Let it fully dry.
Picture
8-Spray paint the trubofront front side black
Cut out pieces of tape and put in on the sides of the turbo lettering.
Picture
Then take the cut-out letters and put it back on top of the letters. Take the black spray paint and spray paint it. Take the tape off and let it fully dry.
Picture
9-Put clearcoat on the turboback, turbofront, and screws
Put some clearcoat on the tops of the screws and everywhere on the turbofront and turboback. Lightly put it on the nuts. Let it fully dry
10-Attach it to your car
Take the thread and put it through one of the holes. This is to make sure you don’t lose it if you drop it. Put the turboback behind the grille. Put the turbofront on the front of the grille and screw in one of the screws.
Picture
Take the scissors and cut the thread. Screw in the other screw and you are done.
