My mechanic checked it out and said the battery lever was low and I should get a new battery. I guess.. Is it normal to be getting a new battery after two years of ownership?

Not normal but I have had to on occasion. My first Corvette, bout several weeks after 9/11, had to have the battery replaced the day after a brought it home.

The longest a battery lasted for me was my 2006 Silverado, bought in June 2006 and battery replaced April 2013.

You should still have some proportional warranty on the battery.

Got the battery out and immediately it looked in bad shape.. Looked kinda "sore" from the side. Got it checked out at the auto shop and was told it would take about 30 minutes for a full test...after like 5 mins on the tester it started beeping that it was dead. So I just bought the best battery they had available. Hopefully this one lasts more than 2 years!
I was nervous that it was the alternator or starter or something else more severe.

Probably too late now, but the OE battey was most likely still under full warranty. A quick call to the dealer would have confirmed that.

I believe the OE battery has a 30 month free replacement warranty - not at home right now to confirm.

And FWIW - the last 3 ACDelco OE batteries I've had lasted between 7 - 9 years old before I replaced them. None of them failed - I just replaced them due to age.
