Did it again

2nd time it's happened.
A while back I did a U-Turn and TORE off... so hard it actually popped the shifter linkage out of it's holder (located under the center console, ahead of the shifter itself).
Today, I was turning right, slightly uphill and it did it as I shifted out of 1st..

Pulled over, popped it back in its holder and proceeded to work.

But I wonder where in the driveline I'm getting that much flex to pop a linkage out....

thinking maybe a solid lower tranny mount.

Did it again today, on a straight section when I was hustling, and shifting fast between gears. I don't think it's a mount problem as I never have any problem getting in gear and I don't feel or see any wrong movement or vibrations from the engine...

That linkage is odd, it snaps into a "U" shaped holder...I may have broken that part so it pops out too easily...

More investigation needed, in the meantime, if I drive normally, no problem...

I think so too... I think it snaps into that holder with the plastic clip, which I broke... It's an $80 repair, but I'm not so sure of it's DIY'ishness....

No, it needs to have some flexibility to move a LITTLE. I think it's a matter of pull center console (or take off its side doors...anyone done that?), disconnect at engine, pull to interior from firewall. Reverse and reinstall.

Me'h, I've done harder jobs.
It's not an issue really needing IMMEDIATE attention as I can fix it in 2 minutes each time it happens, but seems to happen on freeways more often than not!

Hard to see (this is from a Cruze), but there's two linkages towards the top of the console *just below the radio/HVAC buttons*.. You can see two white "clips", that's the linkage sitting in its correct holder & position. The one on the right pops up and when that does, you have no side to side or anything but 1st gear.
