Last year I started hearing an intermittent buzzing sound while driving. However, the noise would stop when I let off the gas and coasted or pushed in the clutch. Now I'm hearing it all the time when the engine is warm. Now it's more pronounced and consistent.
I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is and I'm not having much luck so here goes. I tried the method of putting a screw driver to the alternation, AC compressor, engine block, exhaust manifold, and everywhere else I could find and pressing the screwdriver against my ear to see if I could isolate the problem. No luck, everything sounded fine / normal. The noise does not change when the clutch is engaged or disengaged which leads me to believe that it isn't the manual transmission.
I am able to hear the noise loud and clear once the engine warms up when I put my head below the car behind the front wheels. I can't tell for sure which side it seems to be coming from, but it seems more dominant on the passengers side.
No check engine light and it's driving great. I'm just concerned that this is the beginning of something going out. I'm just confused as what this can be because it only happens when the engine has reached operating temperature.
My speculation is that it's either a tensioner pulley that I can't reach, possibly the transmission, failing fuel pump?
Has anyone here experienced this or have any ideas? Thank you!
