So I was hot rodding the absolute crap out of my car last night which doesnt happen often, did a SUPER hard and fast shift from 1st to second which happens very seldom. I did this twice in a matter of an hour or so, first time was fine, 2nd time i noticed now i have to kinda pull the shifter back pretty far for it to go in, like it has to come back almost as far as it will actually go until it engages 2nd gear and has lost all solidity on for the back 3 gears 2nd, 4th,and 6th (4th doesnt seem to be bad at all, it hasnt changed a whole lot but is still softer than it was and 6th also is much softer and seems like i need to pull the shifter back further than i needed to previously and by soft i mean the motion is not NEARLY as direct as it was before, it feels soft and squishy). not only that but now when i put it into reverse it does sort of a click/clank type noise but only right on the shifter its not in the transmission. brand new shifter cables about 14k miles ago. they were replaced at 76k. i know how to get the shifter boot pulled up and i can see down in but im not sure how to begin disassembling much of anything down there. I am fairly mechanically inclined and i do have the tools i need, but after reading some other posts sounds like i may need to retighten/reposition a clip or cable? I would really prefer not to pay the ridiculous labor cost at the dealership. im really not in the position for that right now.
