I have a 2015 Sonic LT auto sedan, purchased in December 2014. It now has 6,200 miles on it, and has been to the dealer twice now for the same issue.
There is a 'soft spot' in the steering around the 11 oclock position. The steering wheel will not return to center from it unless under heavy acceleration. At the 1 oclock position, there is a good bit more force required to turn through it as compared to 11 oclock, and it will return to center very quickly.
If I hold the steering wheel straight on a flat road, it will veer to the right fairly quickly. If I let go of the steering wheel completely, it sits a tiny bit towards 11 oclock instead of at 12.
The dealer says it is a characteristic of the vehicle, and their other Sonics do the exact same thing. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this issue. I know EPS is most likely the culprit here, and adjusts based on speed and road crown. I just want to confirm this, or know if I should go hassle the dealer.
One important note; I live in Pensacola FL where the roads are crowned insanely steep. I think the EPS system may have 'learned' the roads here, and is just trying to help me by boosting the steering wheel counterclockwise a little more for me. The annoying thing is the issue above happens even on completely flat roads, parking lots, and when I'm on the interstate in the left lane (where the road is crowned the other way).
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have spent a couple of hours scouring the forums for others with this issue and have found none.
