Steering rack spacers

Helped my lowered ion quite a bit in the handling dept.
I was under the sonic tonight to see how hard it would be to make some 1/4" spacers. Luckily the rack has vertical bolts which makes things easier. BUT i noticed a part of the rack where the steering shaft connects is semi recessed into the bottom of the firewall. Anyone taken a rack out? Is there space or compliance enough to move the rack up?

To get the tierods back closer to level, which would ultimately reduce some bump steer.

Or increase it. Without knowing the exact steering geometry you could end up introducing a lot of unwanted toe change.
