Add Cruise Control?

Can you swap steering wheels, re-flash the computer and get cruise control? Pretty common on other GM vehicles.

Doubtful that anyone knows as most just purchase that option when they buy the car as to not deal with the hassle. It is a brand spanking new car so I doubt most will know the question. Let me know where you get the source code for the BCM though.

This has been discussed in another thread, but no real conclusion was reached there either. As Svz stated, nobody has attempted it yet. It will be interesting to see if this is possible and how much it costs when someone gets around to trying it.

if its like the cobalt id say yes but at this point in the game you should have just gotten it when you got the car, it would be far cheaper in the end. but assuming you didn't get it it is worth a try and expect some dealerships to not know its possible as i think the one here still doesn't know you can do it on the cobalt. trial and error.

I spoke to my Salesman yesterday. He said they can order the wheel with the buttons, flash your computer, and send you on your way for a price. Just an option for you. You just need to talk to your dealer.

After a long discussion with my dealer, I decided my LT sedan will be the guinea pig for this. I found a 2011 cruze steering wheel with buttons that looks identical to ours on eBay. Once I hear back from the mech tomorrow I will buy what I need and have them do the rest. Prolly take a week or more to get the stuff in. I will post progress as stuff gets done.

Aftermarket cruise

I had this kit installed. Its okay - sort of in a clumsy location.

I've yet to see an aftermarket cruise I liked... and I used to have to install a lot of them back in the day. If there is indeed a factory way to do this (IE: Steering wheel + BCM flash) ... do it.

Sorry I have been really busy. I am highly dissappointed with my dealerships customer service. I gave up and had them refund me my money. Ill install the rostra kit myself. But I did get an answer ... sort of.

They told me that I would have to buy the steering wheel from GM, I cannot provide my own. They would have to install it and then take pictures of it installed and record the VIN so they could send a work order up to GM to attempt to get them to release the cruise control BCM program which would cost $50. All this would cost more them the $500 I gave them and they would not cover the difference even though 2 of their employees told me I was getting "factory cruise".

Worst part was they didnt know if GM would even release the program. So I could have potentially spent the money just to get a nice steering wheel with buttons that didnt work.

I saw the cruise switch (buttons) and escutcheon that can be installed in the existing noncruise pad for under fifty bucks in GM Parts catalog for Sonic
I predict that there is NO need to "flash" any focking ECM BCM or BM but you just get a harness and run the right wires to the right pins and maybe doublecheck voltages before trying it.
If someone gets the aftermarket kit let us know if in fact you only receive a control pad/shaft with buttons and instructions on which pin to insert or clamp what color wire in/to. That would convince me I am right.
I am going to drive a bit more before trying to install something... make sure I even want to keep this rather drab little car... but a good value beaten only by narrower-****pit and lighter Nissan Versa (similar mpg) at 10990 new with AC (if you can find any, ~four per state per month) or the 13500 automatics. Versa made in Mexico not Michigan but the early PT cruiser Turbo from south of the border was a helluva 4disc rocket ship and solid as a rock, mine anyway..
