Okay, so this one is kinda funky. I've actually had this problem for over a year but have lived with it, but I want to see if there's something I'm overlooking. Anyway, here goes.
2012 Sonic 1LT. Last year I found that occasionally the radio would be on when the car was parked and shut down. After brief investigation I discovered that the spring in the volume/power button broke leaving the pushbutton portion of it in intermittent contact with the switch, turning on (and off) the radio. Car is out of warranty, so I've gotta do this myself. No worries.
First call was to the dealership to see about a new radio. They wanted an insane amount of money for one, and I just couldn't justify paying (if I recall) over $500 for a radio that is perfectly serviceable save for the volume spring. Okay, so I head on over to EBay and I find me a guy selling a stock head end unit for a much more palatable price. Seemed reputable and it was at a cheap price. I asked him if it had the XM unit, which he said it did, and I ordered it. Unit arrived, looked great, like new condition and...
No XM unit.
Okay. So I figure this was a waste but at least it has a volume knob that works, so I go grab my soldering iron and set to disassembling my radio. After a brief assessment, it suddenly dawned on me that the whole faceplace, which was at least in appearance inside and out a similar unit, was an entire subassembly connected to the HEU. So I plugged the faceplate from the unit I received that didn't have the XM into my HEU that came with the car, wired it all back in and what do you know, working unit!
Sort of. Everything works perfectly, including phone over bluetooth, but for some bizarre reason I cannot play media through the bluetooth. Pairs fine but the audio is highly distorted and static. Tried several different bluetooth devices paired to it and it's the same with all of them. Now that I don't subscribe to XM anymore (ironic) I could really use this bluetooth media functionality. Does anyone know if this is a problem that can be rectified via settings or programming or do I have a defective unit?
I appreciate you guys trudging through the mini novel, but I figured there was value in retracing my steps so you know how I got to this point.
Before you ask, no I do not have the other half of the purchased HEU. My ex-wife had a habit of tossing things that were of no use to her and she binned it long ago.
