I've now had my new 2017 Sonic LT Hatchback for two weeks, and while, for the most part, I am happy with my purchase, there is one issue that has come up which is literally a pain in the butt (and even more so).
The RS package brags about having premium cloth, upgraded seats, complete with contrasting red stitching on it's bolsters (raised cushion area along in and outboard sides of seat bottom), but therein exists the problem.
The stitching forms a fairly stiff, raised and hard ridge from front to back along the crest of both side bolsters.
I immediately found it annoyingly uncomfortable as I drove off the lot (pressing along below my IT bands and butt), but was willing to give it a little time to either soften up, or me get used to it.
This past weekend, we went for a little road trip to Banff (~300km round trip) and by the end of trip the problem has escalated from discomfort to injury. I've developed the beginnings of a pressure sore along my outer thigh, especially near the rear of the seat where it tapers, placing the stitched ridge directly under my hip joint. (I'm 6ft, 230lbs) The effect is multiplied on my right thigh as the seat isn't aligned with the accelerator, requiring my right leg/thigh to push harder into the right bolster.
Having heated seats, the owner's manual warns of a safety issue and to not put blankets/pillows on them...and I think it would be a sad thing to have to do so in a brand new car either way.
I've seen other models of Sonic with seat covers that do not have that stitching and think a simple switch to a "down graded" cover would fix the issue but so far it isn't looking like GM (dealer) will be interested in assisting with any fix. (I purchased from a dealer 2 hrs away to get desired color, but turned to closer, local dealer who is uninterested in being an advocate for me).
Have any of you owners of similar, stitched seats, had/have similar problems? (service writer today acknowledged a previous customer had same issue but apparently didn't pursue a fix)
Did you get any satisfaction? come up with a solution?
Appreciate any relevant replies!!
Tanx!!
