So I drive 90+ miles a day round trip for work 20 mins country, 20 highway 20 min city so I have 60k plus mileage on my 2012 1.8 sedan.
Saw the thread about the "gas cap" Fix for CEL. Bought a gm certified cap and replaced couple months ago for my intermittent check engine light which on-star diagnostics said was fuel emissions. This didn't work... Check engine light was on all the time...took it in to dealer they replaced thermostat under warranty and said I had a misfire and needed to,replace air intake hose (they cracked my air hose on top of this checking my air filter which told them no to touch during oil change.) was going to charge me $120 on top of the $69 for the part for labor to remove two hose clamps... I replaced the hose my self. My buddy used code reader to clear cel light...dealer was going to charge $99 to clear light...
So... Week of driving ...light came back on...so annoying since it disables remote start. Invested in code reader and got a p0455 "major evap system leak." I checked all the hoses and everything appears good. Googled the code and talked to a few backyard mechanics and thinking its the solenoid valve which isn't considered a "major" emissions System component so it isn't covered under 80k emissions warranty.
Went to order the part from the dealer and found it was redesigned.. So in addition to ordering the part $45 I had to order a wiring harness $35 (parts person gave me a hard time on the phone when I asked him to aside for me to pick up.) either way I always inspect my parts before i leave dealer or parts store. Got kinda mad at the parts person Because they tried to set me up to fail by giving me the old wire and didn't want to give me a copy of the diagram showing how they fit together and where he part is on the car in their computer system.
Went to pick it up and it was a different guy who was totally cool, with me when I said why don't these fit. He went and pulled up diagram and got the proper harness and explained I might have to drop the fuel tank to replace. He gave me a copy of the diagram.)
So that's where I'm at right now... I have the parts in hand with the diagram of where it is above the fuel tank. It looks like I might be able to get at it through the passenger wheel well if I remove the tire and jack the car. Has anyone else replaced this emissions valve? Right now, kinda pissed that the was no recall for a re-engineer that's part of emissions. Gonna work in this in the driveway if the weather is good.... I got a legit set up with floor jacks and ramps...really hoping its easy to get to.
When I get a chance I will scan the diagram and post here. Also According to owners manual the evac solenoid valve is a recommended swap at 60k miles.
