2015 will be my 47th year riding motorcycles. My current machine is a 27 year old, 1988 Honda Goldwing, 1500-6 cylinder.
X other
I have a motorcycle. 1972 Honda CL450K5. Has not run in 15 years.
I just got mine running this past weekend. If you ever wanna trade your klr for a cruiser let me know I have a yahmaha vstar 650 custom thats get a bit more custom here soon with ammo can saddle bags. I really want a klr or something sportier. it doesnt have to be faster, just allow for more lean (I scrape my shoes going around corners).
Tinkering with mine too.
I admit that I do like to lean the bike over when there's an opportunity, so a cruiser may not be a right choice for me.
I just purchased new tires for the KLR. They are still a dualsport tire, but they are slightly more street-oriented than the factory tire (which sucks anyway). I've been reading reports of people confidently scraping pegs on these.
While I'm not skilled yet to scrape pegs (not without pushing myself beyond my comfort zone), I do ride mostly street, with gravel backroads thrown in. This summer I plan to ride to a few national forests, so I'll be traveling on dirt some, but nothing crazy or technical.
Picked up a 90% street 10% dirt dualsport tire.
Hoping to install this weekend, although they are talking about rain on Saturday and rather chilly. I don't think I want to scrub in a new tire in the wet and cold simultaneously.
My bike looked like this til Saturday. Saturday consisted of put the carb on hook it to a gas can and try it, take it off, adjust, repeat about 10 times. I almost gave up. It still has issues on cold starts. It will run on 1 cylinder until it warms up a bit then the other starts firing and it runs fine.
It's also considerably faster. Took it out on the highway the old top speed was about 80, I was doing 85 with plenty of throttle left. That's great because it's not safe to not be able to speed up.
**** you auto correct!
I only have one cylinder to worry about, but I had to pull the head to try and repair a broken exhaust stud. Once I make a new exhaust and get an intake I will have to rejet the carb. Its a version of a Harley CV40 carb.
From what I recall I am RPM limited to about 98 MPH. I have not gone that fast though.
Yes sir. XB headlight and flyscreen, and hopefully soon XB shift linkage and home made reatsets, Renthal handle bar, intake, custom exhaust, and some plastics removal.
