I received a recall notice in the mail about this. I have the 1.4 so it doesn't apply to me. I called GM Canada and it was sent to me by mistake but there is a recall for certain 1.8L.
As per the recall notice:
Your 2012 Chevrolet Sonic equipped with a 1.8L may leak oil when operated under -25C. The rubber washer in the engine oil pressure indicator switch may become inflexible and allow engine oil to leak from the switch or cause the switch to malfunction. This would cause the oil lamp on the instrument cluster to illuminate. If oil pressure warning lamp is ignored, the engine could be damaged from a lack of lubrication.
Your GM dealer will replace the oil pressure switch. This service will be performed to you at no charge until December 31, 2015.
If you already paid for this repair, you are eligible for reimbursement until December 31,2014. Please Provide your dealer with copies of all receipts, invoices etc.
