2012 Chevy Sonic shredding serpentine belt.

I have a 2012 Chevy Sonic LTZ and I have an issue with it shredding the serpentine belt. I suspect that it's the auto tensioner but I did not check the free spin of any of the spools. Can anyone tell me which spoils are supposed to free spin with the car shut off? Any any other reasons that the belt would shred itself within minutes of installation? I'll be pulling the car into garage this afternoon and pulling the belt of to verify my thoughts. Anything else I should check would be appreciated.

So I've pulled the belt and the tensioner spins freely. The A/C compressor spins but not as easy. Not sure that it's the tensioner now. However it did look a little crooked and has side to side play. Any suggestions ?

Mis-aligned pulleys can do that. Did it start being a problem after engine work?

No sat for a few days turned it on and the belt started snapping. Replaced the belt and it instantly shredded new one. I got a new tensioner I'm planning on installing just don't want to burn through another belt. I inspected all areas pulley goes by for shiny spots or signs of rubbing without any problems. I did have chunks of the old belt in the grooves of the alternator.

Well installed the tensioner and new belt and it didn't instantaneously shred so there's hat. Have to take it for a spin and run it for a bit longer but ran it for 2 min and then inspected belt and everything looks fine.

What is your milelage? Maybe I should replace the belt and tensioner as preventative maint?

97k and from what i've been hearing you want to replace them both at the same time. save yourself the shredded belt. Cost was about 35 bucks for the tensioner and 20 for the new belt.
