Some may have read about my blown head gasket/warped head at 31k on my Sonic.
In 35,000 miles I have the following: two sets of stabilizer bar links, air intake snorkel, brake pedal position sensor, several TCM reprograms, electronic thermostat (silly idea in the first place), aforementioned cylinder head and head gasket replacement, console floor shifter, floor mats worn to the carpet in 5,000 miles, brake drums and shoes replaced under the GM campaign, RF power window motor (after the dealer couldn't find the issue three times, although I told them the motor was slow and needed replacement), and probably other items I'm forgetting.
Mind you, I take care of this car and do my own maintenance (as I do on all my cars), using Delco/GM OEM parts (I was in the auto parts industry for 11 years), and using only full synthetic Dexos1 approved oil changed well before the oil life monitor says it needs it.
This has been one disappointing car, and we've owned GM in my family exclusively since 1977. So, recently, GM sent a survey about the experience I had (the last item was the thermostat).
I blew them straight zeros. To my surprise, I got a call from the "Early Relay Team" (?? I think that's what they call themselves) and a woman explained that she was following up on my survey.
I gave her my background and said, "You're going to have to do something for me, this car has not been a good showing of GM's quality or its best foot forward. Daewoo sourced engines burned GM in the past and this is no different".
She offered me $2k off of a new car. I told her, "I'm not sure my next one will be a GM product, and if my coworkers/friends heard that, they would probably not think it's me talking". I said, "You've got to do better, I own this problem car today and now".
I got a letter from GM in the mail that I am now getting a Component Coverage Letter (which I got today) which says it covers "All Vehicle Components; but excludes non-covered items and maintenance as detailed in your GM vehicle's Warranty and Owner Assistance Booklet".
Of course maintenance isn't covered, I wouldn't want them doing it anyway. LOL. Has anyone gotten one of these what does it cover? I have to say the warranty booklet is pretty vague/tricky/oddly worded.
Did I in fact get an extension of the BtoB warranty until 2021 or 110,500 miles?
I would appreciate anyone else's feedback. I'm going to call the number on the letter now. I scanned a copy of it and sent it to the dealer for them to keep on file...
Thanks.
