2015 RS Recall Notice

I just got a recall notice for the 2015 RS. Haven't noticed this yet but I really haven't been listening. It's nothing serious, next service I'll bring it up.

Manufacturer Non-compliance recall issued
Recall #2017130
MYLINK LOSS OF KEY REMINDER CHIME
Locate an authorized General Motors dealer General Motors dealer to obtain more information about this recall.

This came via Carfax, haven't heard from GM yet.

I can't post this anywhere other than here yet if anyone wants to post this info in the RS forum

It's just a software update, should take about 2 hours depending on how busy the dealership is.

I have a 2015 LT 1.4 and just got a call from my dealer about that recall. Seems it's just the warning chime may fail to sound for seat-belts and key left in ignition. No big deal to me and I can certainly do without the seat-belt chime.

If anyone actually does this...

If anyone actually follows through with this recall it would be nice to document the before and after to know exactly what changes. I'm not sure I want to do this until I know exactly what changes. I have no complaints with my current chime situation. This is the info I got through onstar from GM about the recall.

Recall Title: MYLINK LOSS OF KEY REMINDER CHIME

Recall Description:
General Motors has decided that certain 2013-2016 Chevrolet Spark, Sonic, and Trax vehicles equipped with a Bring Your Own Media (“BYOM”) radio may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, “Theft protection and rollaway prevention.” BYOM radio software in these vehicles may fail to provide an audible warning/reminder chime when the driver, after turning off the ignition and leaving the key in the cylinder, waits 10 minutes or longer to open the door for the first time. The vehicle may also fail to provide – or provide a shortened – audible warning when the driver opens the door, hears a chime, fails to retrieve a key left in the ignition, closes the door, and subsequently opens the door a second time more than 20 seconds later.

Safety Risk Description:

If no key reminder chime sounds to alert the driver to a key left in the ignition, there is an increased risk of theft.

Repair Description:

Dealers will update the radios with corrected operating software free of charge.

what if we don't want this done, can a paper be signed off on or something ?

I have my radio "tweaked" and don't want them to touch it.

Nope, you need to disable the auto time set setting and manually set it. It will work just fine then, believe me I played with it for the first 6mo I had my 13 and gave up.

It uses the time that a radio station broadcasts or something funky like that, not a smart design.

My 13 RS just came back from the dealer with a note saying the recall was performed, no issues with the "tweaked" radio. Highly doubt they did anything as my radio SW versions didnt change.

Got a call today about the recall. I've had my 2015 RS for only a month so haven't had any issues. Dealership said it would take a couple hours or less. Good reason for a free carwash. Sonic be happy :)

Make sure your steering wheel radio controls work before you leave the dealership! My dealer somehow accidentally locked out my steering wheel controls when they did the update. I had to go back in and wait another couple hours for them to fix it..
