Pika Pii!!!
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if something goes wrong, if you hurt yourself, break something, get a ticket, etc... Proceed at your own risk.
Thought I'd make this even though there's a guide of sorts on sonicpowered.com since there were some things that I thought could be elaborated.
So far, I have only installed the seat and left the cables disconnected. (which will cause the airbag light to stay on. Don't worry. It doesn't beep or anything.) I will update this DIY later on if/when I/someone figures out how to completely remove the harness from the old seat and trick the car into thinking that the airbag is still there.
Tools you need:
-T50 6 point Star Drive
-Small flat head screwdriver
-Small wrench to disconnect the battery.
Other stuff you need:
-Seat Brackets. (Here, I am using Planted Brackets. Not sure if anyone else makes brackets for this car at the moment.)
-Seat Sliders.
-A Seat.
I would recommend installing the sliders and brackets on the seats before removing the stock seat and throwing the whole thing into the car.
Every seat is a bit different, but it's basically nut on back side, and bolt + washer + ring thingy pointing towards the butt of the seat. Adjust the rails manually to get clearance for getting the bolts in.
Anyways, onward to the install!
Step 1:
Disconnect the battery.
This will eliminate any risk of accidental airbag deployment.
Step 2:
Remove T50 Bolts
There are 2 bolts in the back that keep the seat in place. The front just has hooks.
One bolt is exposed, and one bolt is hidden under a plastic cover.
To remove the plastic cover, just wedge a flathead screwdriver under (namely the area between the 2 slits) and pry it out. Doesn't take too much force.
Step 3:
Disconnect wiring harness
Before you can completely lift the seat out, the stock seat harness is connected under the seat.
Lift the seat slightly, and disconnect the cable by pushing in the direction shown in the pic below before pulling it out.
Step 4:
Remove stock seat.
Once the cable is disconnected, you can push the seat towards the front of the car, and pull the seat out. Be careful of scratching up your interior when removing the seat. I personally didn't have any issues removing my seat, but if you do have issues, Import Tuner over on the Sonicpowered website recommends that you remove the headrest before removing the seat. I wonder if having my seat on the lowest setting has anything to do with it...
Sad Seat is Sad.
Take note that your airbag sensor will still be attached to the seat, so be wary of that while removing the seat.
Step 5:
Removing the airbag sensor
There is a plastic cover that covers the airbag sensor. To remove it, push in the direction shown in the pic below to unhook the plastic and at least move it enough to see the bolt. Then wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle and remove the wiring from the plastic cover. Cause you work out.
Tip: raising the height of the seat helps a lot.
See that bolt? Whip out that T50 Drive and remove it.
Once that bolt is removed, you can pull the orange tab and unhook the cable from the sensor.
Once that's unhooked, you should be able to free the sensor from the seat.
Step 6:
Unhook seat belt buckle from wiring harness
Step 7:
Remove seat belt buckle
T50 that thang just like everything else.
Step 8:
Transfer buckle and sensor to new seat and install
The Planted Brackets come with their own bolts so you have to remove the bolts that are already on the belt buckle and sensor. This is a bit tricky since they have a ring that prevents the bolt from being removed.
A trick I used was to wedge a flathead under the ring to keep it still, and unscrewing it out from the other end.
From there, reinstalling the seat is simply the reverse of everything. Hook two fronts, and screw in two back bolts.
And Voila.
As for the passenger side, it should pretty much be the same thing, but on opposite sides.
Please feel free to make notes of any other tips you may think of, and I'll add them in.
