Hello all!
I'm looking for some guidance to *hopefully* avoid going into have my car looked at. 1) I like to learn and work on my car and 2) I am a bit of a cheapskate lol. I own a 1.8 Chevy Sonic LT Hatchback with about 57k miles. I have a couple car savvy friends who have told me the two error codes, P0496 and P0442, I have been getting aren't going to cause damage, they are just going to cause me to get a little worse gas mileage. Which I am fine with, but I'm also OCD and want to have my car running prestine as I plan to run my car until it can no longer function.
P0496-EVAP emission high purge flow fault
P0442- EVAP system control leak (small)
And before anyone asks, YES my gas cap is tightened and has a good seal. HOWEVER, I am 99% sure the flap inside my gas tank that you push a pump through has fallen in as it is no longer there lol.
Do y'all think that the flap could be causing these codes to be thrown? If so, how do I go about getting it out of my tank?
Is there any other way to check my EVAP system without taking it in?
Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give me.
