Check Engine Light on after a 6 hour trip (P0599)

Hi All,

My Check Engine Light came on after a 6 hour trip. It came on after filling up gas.

I checked through an OBD Reader and it is P0599. I cleared it last night to see if it will come on again which it did the next morning.

I'm curious to know if this is covered within the Powertrain Warranty. I've read a few threads and other forums and seems like it is covered within the Powertrain warranty.

The car currently has 42800 miles

P0599 deals with the thermostat heater control circuit. Your engine may be running hotter than normal while this condition persists.

It's possible that it's just a loose/dirty connection but I wouldn't be surprised if the thermostat requires replacement.

Since the thermostat is bolted to the engine, it's likely covered by the powertrain warranty.

I've already had to replace the thermostat on mine twice with this code. It never seems to overheat but it will eventually cause the A/C to not work properly due to faulty readings from the thermostat element.

It is possible, I was driving for a total of 6 hours in an average of 90F heat.

Thats good to know, I called the dealer to ask whether I can drive it ti'll I have to bring it in to the Dealer this Saturday. The first thing they asked is if it is flashing which I told them its just on solid. The service advisor said its fine to drive it for the week with the engine light on. I wont take risk though, I'd probably drive it to work 5 miles a day.

Whats funny is that, the first thing he said that it may be a P0599 which I assume is a common thing for Chevy since he didn't even have to think about it.

Just got word from the dealer. They have determined that it is a thermostat issue and it is covered under warranty.

I wonder which warranty it is covered under. My service advisor said that this may fall into the California Emission Defect and Emission Performance Warranty Coverage which is 15 years / 150k. Special treatment with PZEV vehicles in California
