Chevy volt water outlet housing Swap to 1.4L anyone heard of this ?

I have heard several mods off the forums one was a Chevy volt thermo housing mod thought that was elec car ? I guess it has a 176 degree sending unit to turn on the fans ...I am interested since I already had to replace my housing at around 29k miles it cracked and I found out the fan actually has a high speed this summer sitting in a drive through it kicked on high speed at 213 degrees usually it's slow speed on at 209 and off at 198.

Also someone had told me why do you do a solinoid bypass mod ??? All you need to do is turn your wastegate rod 1/4 to 1/2 turn and you will get around 1-3 psi boost increase ...never heard that before .

Cool yeah a guy posted it on you tube only he was using a 176 thermostat out of a volt ...I think that's a little too cold I know 2016 up is like 203 degrees my 2013 has a 217 degree that's way too hot be for a turbo and all the plastic there I'm running a continuous 207/209 really hot 211 seems like 209 my fan comes on in slow mode to cool it down to low 200"s it's pegged to run 200 may after 2016 previous years losing turbos , water outlets etc a 217 thermo was too hot .

Yeah man, I’m not tuned yet I’m actually in the process with jerry right now, but mine runs around 215 upwards of 224/226 more often than not and I definitely wanna cool it down a bit.

I used the Volt thermostat guts in my stock housing. (Dorman 902-2080) 176 degrees most all the time. The only issue is when sitting in traffic in the heat it will go up a little until the fans kick up. The stock ECM tuning only goes down to 185 I believe. Once moving it immediately goes back down though. Much better than stock. I also put a 15PSI radiator cap on. ACDelco RC118

Hey buickz, what’s you use to polish your TB and how’d you do it? Also did you notice any difference? I want to get a hold of a ported one but BNR is out and I haven’t asked when they’ll do another batch. I’d like to do something with it though. I just ported my IM on Saturday and I’m gonna be going with the racer x manifold sooner than later I think. But let me know about your TB I wanna help mine out a little if it’s worth it

I dont think polishing the TB made any difference at all power wise honestly. I just did it because I was there working on the intake manifold. (That makes a huge difference) Whenever I have a part off I try to clean it up.

I used sand paper wheels until its nice and smooth in a die grinder.

Stay about 1/4" away from the throttle blade.

I did see it go up in the low 200 range maybe 206 surprised me that it still went up there that made me wonder about using the 15 psi cap but it only does that if I'm idling in a drive through it's pretty much 180 ish ....

You need to add an auxiliary fan switch to the radiator. That will take care of the temperature spikes when the car is sitting still, and A/C isn't in use.
BTW: your cooling fan is a 3-speed.
The add-on fan switch will trigger low speed at whatever temperature your switch is set for.
