daytime running lights

Anyone figure out how to disable the DRLs on these cars? On my cobalt there was a fuse I pulled. On the GTO it was a relay. Thanks.

Flick the switch to the left when you start the car...... I'm sure there is a fuse but I don't recall it being brought up.

I think the DRL and parking light selector is 'tarded on the Sonic, but if you roll the selector wheel CCW it will turn off the lights. You prolly knew that and maybe are asking about fully disabling it. I don't know how, but I'm sure it can be done.

I think he doesn't want them at all. I would start with looking at the fuse box diagrams. It might be that simple.

You can turn them off with the light control? Isn't that the opposite of what DRLs are supposed to be? I thought you were forced to use them because big government knows best. I'd like them to never come on at all. Having them turn on then off is just going to shorten their lifespan.

I don't have my Sonic yet, so I don't know anything.

In the day I like to run the parking lights and fogs.

I haven't found a way to run the fogs by themselves.

Yeah, twist the switch to the left and it will snap back to auto and they are off. They will be back on with the next key cycle though.

My entire headlight setup including fogs has been rerouted. No day time. Just full head and fogs whenever the light sensor thinks there snt enough light. Works well for me. I hated turning on my fogs all th time

I love the auto light system, DRLs and all. I don't think about lights at all in the Sonic. Only down side is forgetting to turn the manual lights on and off in my F150 when I have to drive that.

I'm curious what the benefit of turning DRL off is unless you are trying to sneak away from a crime scene at night?

The reason I disabled DRL's on my Cobalt...when I installed projectors and HID's....you can't use DRL's with the HID's.

Now that I removed the HID's, I should throw the fuse back in though. I quite enjoy having DRL's most of the time...better safe than sorry for driving. And of course the auto headlights are nice...don't have to ever think about turning them on which is a plus...they're just on as soon as it's dark there are enough clouds in the sky.

Some idiot got hit on the head with an apple and said:
"Hey, how do I turn off my DRL when driving through a christmas light park? Or how about when I'm sitting in my car pointed at someone's bedroom window while parked/drunk?"

There are dozens of reasons for a$$holes to stop forcing us to have lights on - Sylvania has enough money TYVM.

This should absolutely be a 'vehicle option' on the radio.

My other pet peeve? The moron who coded the cluster warning lights.
That f***in green light for the lights that doesn't dim and is ALWAYS on when lights are on has to GO.

First of all, it's the symbol for the PARKING LIGHTS, but is on even when DRL are on. (and parking lights are off)
Then, it's on when you have the headlights fully on. They're different symbols FFS, why have it on?
If it's on when only DRL are on and on when headlights are fully on, then how does it help remind me to have my headlights fully on?
(hell the front lights are on, and the warning light is on either way, how do I remember to turn them all on?!)

The dimming..... hey duma**! Keeping the interior dim helps with night vision - So why do you have that damn green light at full intensity?

I'm assuming you have an automatic as us manual folks know the parking brake shuts DRL off.

I don't mind the DRL's, but I am annoyed that I can't seem to stop the car from turning on interior lights when I park. Frequently I want to park the car and spend a little private time with my driving companion before getting out of the car... or even before just starting it up again and heading home. I don't appreciate the five minutes of hey everyone look at the couple sitting in the car waiting for the lights to go out. (Is it five minutes? Sometimes it feels like two hours, maybe it's only 2 minutes. Einstein was right)

I think the problem is there is no OFF switch on the lights dial. There's a momentary switch that kills things, but only after they've come on, and it doesn't kill the interior problem anyway.

Should be a setting for Off, Auto, Parking, DRL, Headlight. I'd leave it in Auto almost all the time, and I'd frankly never use the other three settings since Auto works fine for me for all that...but a hard "Off and stay Off" setting would certainly get occasional use.

I kind of assumed there was an option under vehicle settings on the radio to turn off interior lights like my 06 grand prix had. Perhaps I assumed wrong?

I think you are simplifying how the system works. The headlight switch has a momentary position to the left which sends a signal to the computer. Holding it in this position will most likely have no effect.

Hold the switch to the left and start the car and see what happens. If the headlights/DRL come on then it won't work. Easy enough to see if it is worth destroying a switch to trying remove the spring.
