DIY short shift knob with reverse lockout

After seeing a few threads on diy short shifters i decided to give it a shot and try it myself. However i did not want to lose the safety feature of the reverse lockout. Decided that i will not only cut the rod down in size but i also cut the plastic reverse lockout thing down as well. Then i glued the reverse lockout pieces back together with jb weld. Been driving with it for a few months now and and it works great.

Do you have any pictures of what you chopped off the reverse lockout? Also, how did you attach the new knob? Is it threaded or press on?

As far as the knob goes it is threaded. The die size i believe was 1/2in.When it comes to cutting the plastic pieces it depends how short you want to make it. When you first take everything off u will notice a long arching plastic piece that connects the 2 pieces of the lockout. Just cutting that will give you a decent drop. I cut that off mine, as well as i cut the top off a little .(shown by the redline in the pic) and rounded it there to make it look nice.the problem u will run into when you try to make it as short as i did is that the actual rod bends a little at the bottom, so the black reverse lockout piece wont slide up and down well , so i just used a dremel and filed the inside off the black reverse lockout piece a little till it slides up and down freely.

Cool, cool. I always find myself grabbing the lever just under the stock knob so I was thinking that doing something like this would be nice. I've got the shift knob from a '95 Geo metro (my first car) that I want to put in for sentimental reasons, plus it's really comfy.
