Dual filament hi-beams

I would like to have all four headlights run on low beam mode. Is is as simple as replacing the hi bulbs with hi/low dual filament bulbs and parallel-ing a wire into the low beam terminal?

in theory... jump the lo beam to the lo on the new highbeam and run the high beam to the relay that switches to the high

Should be that EZ right? I can't see how it could go wrong, but leave it to me to find out.

I don't suggest that mod. I ran my fogs with the parking lamp signal and the CAN bus system dimmed a bulb, threw codes, killed the reading from my ambient air temp sensor, made my car alarm go off for no reason, and generally did things that made absolutely no electrical sense whatsoever.

After I undid the harness modification everything returned to normal.

Moral of the story: Bosch, the developer of the CAN bus system, is the automotive antichrist.

Then run the a constant wire from switch 12 to both lo's to the battery

I could run a 30 amp relay to switch on from the 12v signal from the existing low beam power, or would the coil resistance in the relay trigger illuminational anarchy. I don't want to "occupy" my headlights.

There's one way to find out. And I already proved the operation reversable.

Check your head lights patterns first... more than likely I would HIGHLY recommend NOT doing this.

In general, the low beams have a sharp cutoff to prevent blinding in coming traffic. Many european designed vehicles have a low beam pattern where the cut off is lower on the side of oncoming traffic.. .like this : __/-- __/-- (see last picture on this link: Pennock's Fiero Forum - 90mm Headlight Harness Schematic (by Oreif) )

Most hi-beams don't have proper cut-off.... you'll be blinding oncoming traffic and risk being ticketed by police in certain states (or fail inspection). If someone claims an accident occurred due to being blinded, you may be liable. The pattern is a function of the headlamp housing not the bulb inside.
