engine clanking ticking noise at idle and low rpm?

Hi everyone,

My wife's sonic started making this clanking/ticking engine noise out of nowhere couple months ago. Never had it before that. It hasn't gotten any better or worse, it's just there. 2013 78K miles, no issues other than this random noise. It's most noticeable during idle and at low rpm. Take your fingernail and start tapping on your desk rapidly, sounds like that. It picks up tempo in tandem with rpm. You can hear it at the beginning of each rev in the video. The sound itself is loudest over the engine. I've searched through countless threads, on this site and others, seen several videos but haven't seen any that matches our noise exactly. I've seen several issues about the water pump, not sure if that's this or not. See video link below.

Any insight is appreciated before I potentially spend $$$ at the dealership.

I had the same problem at 26,000 miles. Loose sparkplug was the culprit......

Fantastic man, that was it. I looked up how to remove the spark plugs (never done it on this car). Far right one loosened easier than the rest. Took them all out, cleaned, greased, re-torqued back in and A-Ok now. Noise is gone. Many thanks. :banana:

Glad it's fixed! I'll never forget that sound..... almost like there's a Turkey way down in there.
