Alright guys.... check this out and im hoping some experts here give me a little further insight. heres what ive got cookin

1.8l ecotec engines
bore: 80.5 mm
stroke 88.2 mm

honda b18(i can hear people wincing now lol)
bore 81 mm
stroke 82-89mm but this one doesnt matter really

lets say that the wrist pins in the honda and sonic rods were close... what would be the issue with using a honda piston for the sonic?

permitting that the distance from the piston face to CL of wrist pin is the same and that the head volume was relative or preferably a little less that the stock we should have pistons available right???:banana:

the rings and oiling style should be irrelevant and as far as rod and journal diameters or swaps im not sure but we have the forged rods and a nodular crank.

we need forged pistons to boost a 1.8l.... or i do at least

.5 mm =.0196 and handful of millionths would a .020 oversize bore cause any issues on our stock blocks??

Preloader had a 1.4 apart at one time idk if he measure wall thicknesses on the bores or if anyone has any insight although if chevy kept its same formula its had forever then .030 or less is considered permittable overbore

any one care to chime in im looking for some help and discussion

We have forged rods, but my guess is that they are forged only to make them lighter and still just strong enough for roughly stock power levels. Just because it is forged does not mean it can hold a lot of power. Having a set of replacement rods will probably be one of the hardest parts.

Personally I would just have pistons made that will be correct instead of trying to use parts for a completely different engine. There is more involved than just bore, wrist pin, and ring dimensions. Also the wrist pin dimensions need to be a spot on match to even have a slight chance. I will just spend the money to have a set made to exactly what I want when the time comes.

From my understanding, the 1.8 is a cast iron block with no sleeves.

Not knowing how close the water jacket is could be a issue. Take 20 thou out and you could be to close for running high boost with no sleeves. But you already know this.

Buy a spare motor and find out.

Personably I don't see a issue with .020 over. In reality it's .010 equally over the whole piston.

But as Clyde said, it's gonna be easier/ better to have pistons made vs boring the block. Probably cost about the same too.

the only issue with custom piston is the minimum order youre looking at. diamond and wiseco will make you anything you want but if you want 4 and only 4 the price goes through the roof...which you guys already know. and im pretty sure i read that we have H beams? if they were going for lighter material with strength an i beam wouldve worked just fine..

and a cast rod weighs less that forged if i remember correctly. forgings are denser and therefore heavier per volume they have.

and again just going out on a limb here. the z18xer motors. i dont really care if theyre different... will the motor bolt up to our transmissions

ive been researching and cant seem to find the transmission options codes for the uk stuff.

if the block will accept our current trans then i can get an engine for about 450 plus freight. which is better than 900 something in the states.

didnt pre get his 1.4 overseas?
if so ill have to find out what the shipping was

Diamond is not cheap, but not insane either. My last engine was built with custom order Diamond pistons.

The rods can be made thinner when forged. Thus it has the same strength as a powdered metal rod, but less weight due to being a lot smaller.

Z18XER is almost the same as the A18XER as far as i can tell. May or may not have the oil squirters and all the electronic controls though.

If the Z18XER is missing some of the controls the A18XER has you may be looking at some costly changes or tuning options. Better hope you dont have emissions testing either.

Is that $450 USD or another currency? Will they even ship to the US? Will customs allow it to clear? Will there be any extra duties imposed on it? All important factors to look into.

BTW, off the shelf Wiseco pistons for my last car were $550 without any coatings. Custom cut and coated (ceramic top and whatever the side coating is) Diamond pistons came out to $750 the last time I had a set made. An extra $200 to cover coatings and programming. Not a bad price if you ask me. Diamond also didnt jerk me around for 5 weeks with a bunch of lies before telling me that cant cut my pistons. Took 2 weeks to have Diamond custom make and coat a set. Plus they are maybe 15-20 miles from my house.

Theses are all good points.... As far as i can see the z18xer motors is basically identical to our... It is a vvt engine had twin port and oil sprayers..... Pretty close or close enough as long as itll bolt up to the trans and 450 is usd i saw a few engine online in ebay.uk.
As far as shipping i dont see how itd be any worse than coming from anywhere else in the world... Alot of the uk seller list that items ship international Or any where in the world so. We will have to see

Motor trans extra axles and spindles... Shifter and all kids i could make my car into a manual if i wanted to. But alas. 100$ for starting bid... No one has touched it. If i had some friends out thay way. Have them pick it up and ship it to me lol. But thats about the best price ive ever seen.

I know its and old thread but would pistons for a 1.8L toyota 2zr-fe engine fit? the bore is the same and the stroke is 88.3 which is only .1 over ours.
