Engine mount needs change frequently(1 engine mount maintains 5k miles)

My Sonic is at 28k miles now. My first engine mount changed when it was at 3k miles. When it's under guarantee, it was not a problem. I did not pay anything. But it keeps consuming engine mounts.



You can hear it when the car curving or springs due to asphalt ripple. Engine does not stay right in place.

My friend noticed it at 3k miles for the first time. He said it's due to engine mount. I took the car to the service and they said engine mount needs the replace under warranty, he was right. That was my first engine mount replace and it keeps consume it.

Do you think it could be Sway Bar Links? Just throwing some possibilities? My car has 27,000 miles and my drivers side one went splat

Oh yes sway bar links changed 2 times also. First was due to my complain, second was a recall. My complain was wriggle sound at broken roads. I never had same problem again.

The transmission mount could be another cause.

We don't hear much about the diesel sonics on this forum. Hopefully it isn't an inherent problem for them.

When I'm in uphill bumper to bumper trafic(I mean real uphill) and when I'm in first gear, about to stop, I feel a huge knock when I hit the clutch for keep the engine running. There might be transmission mount problem too.

On the other hand, all diesel cars enormously shaking when you stop the engine. Diesel Sonic has not this characteristic. It stops the engine like a gasoline car. Even brand new BMW diesels shaking a lot more than the Sonic when you stop the engine. My friends says do you sure it's diesel when my Sonic auto stops at the redlights. Engine is a little bit loose I think? Like it amortised.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the factory mounts in these cars. They aren't very strong and you can feel the slop in the drivetrain as you try to send it.

The swaybar endlinks should just be replaced with MOOG or the ZZP ones. I prefer the ones ZZP sells because of the easier install and removal. Never should there be plastic for suspension components. You'll notice the steering response goes up when you make the switch.
