Exhaust flames

One of the things I enjoyed about my srt-4 back in the day was the ability to shoot flames whilst no lift shifting or bouncing off the rev limiter. Is there any exhaust system that allows the 1.4L sonic to do that, while at the same time not being obnoxiously loud? I spend alot of time at 70mph on the freeway and dont want drone,etc.

Am I asking too much of an exhaust system to shoot flames and not be loud?

Sounds like you are asking for an exhaust that removes all the emissions controls in it and then a tune that randomly injects fuel specifically so that it will ignite in the exhaust to make noise. Chances are that it will be annoyingly droney (is that even a word??) and you will just waste fuel while pissing off everyone on the road around you. Thanks for being one of those SRT douches that makes so many people not like them. Bouncing off the limiter to shoot flames and make noise is a sure sign of idiocy.

I wanna say that my exhaust spits flames sometimes. I have the ZZP turboback exhaust straight piped. When I let off the throttle at certain rpms I get a good pop. And although I have never seen any flames myself. Some pops are so loud that I can't help to think I'm gettin a little flame action That's not my goal though nor do I try, it just happens.

More so than hanging out with you wanting to bang the rev limiter to shoot flames out of your car. I think I would pick mitdr774 any day over someone wanting to just make noise and "throw flames" like he did with his "SRT-4".

Is it good for turbo cars to spit flames?

Pretty sure decent and power productive tuning strategies do not favor such proclivities.


Anyway if you want flames out the exhaust you need an open exhaust since all devices that control emissions or sound have some flame suppression traits, usually most of them are quite good at flame suppression. You'll also need a roll your own tune with lots of valve overlap, rich fuel trims, and hilter kilter spark advance....... Then you've got winning.
