Extended warranty

My car is over 36k (I'm at 38k now) and I got mail from my dealer telling me about extending warranty and to go to the dealer for more info. How many here went along with this? Is there a monthly fee?
I'm at the tire shop and the dealer is around the corner so I'm considering stopping by and asking about it.

I also got the notice but I'm well over 50k miles.
There was a monthly fee depending on what options you choose.
I got the CNA extended warranty when I bought the car so I'm good until 100k or 5years.

is it a continuation of your GM warranty, not a dealer warranty but the actual bumper-to-bumper offered by GM? That may be worth it for another 36K.

BTW, you guys ever read online about CarMax's warranty..some guy posted about buying an expensive German car which broke down a lot, but with CarMax's warranty he basically had the warranty pay for itself in no time....

What does the "extended warranty" cover? Don't forget, you still have the balance of your 5 year/100,000 mile factory powertrain warranty.

I went but I'm not sure about it being $115 a month for 18 months for 36k miles more of warranty (it would expire at 74k miles) it's just gonna be adding to my monthly car note and an extra bill..maybe I'll change my mind who knows.
But yeah it's a extended bumper to bumper warranty from GM the dealer had sent a letter in the mail about it to stop by and talk about that.
I know I still have the 100k/5yr powertrain warranty but while I had the bumper to bumper ...it sure came in handy (thermostat, coil pack, some air thing, shifter button, stabilizer links junk/stuff surrounding that issue).

@natesriv dang them german cars lol I would love a golf gti some day though...on a lease.

$115 x 18 months is $2,070.00. That's way too much IMHO. I believe the thermostat and coil packs would be covered by your powertrain warranty (I could be wrong, but they are part of the engine).

I wouldn't pay a grand for it, but then I've always had good luck with my new GM cars. That goes back to my first new car - 1976 Pontiac Ventura...

Yeah $115/$2k is way too much to add monthly even without interest like I was told... Car insurance is already enough added monthly! It would be cool if it was in the $50-$60 range though I think I'd do it. But to me it's like your paying in advance for future repairs? Maybe I'll just sit tight and hope for the best with the powertrain warranty.

@The Champ, I need to check up on what is covered by powertrain warranty! I forgot if those things are covered or not.
And ohhh my father had a Ventura back in them days.

Before you buy, find out what the dealer will really fix under the warranty. In my case, evidence of a leak from the throw-out bearing actuator was argued away as a contributor to a clutch failure. Prepaid extended Warranty was $1200, but coverage was ruled out as normal wear and tear. Clutch repair was $1500. Roadside assistance was not covered unless it was warranty or recall. Another $120 for a flat bed. Save your money to pay for service unless you trust your dealer.

Last week , the dealer offered an extended warrenty ( when we bought the Sonic ) for $ 2,500.00 . I turned down all the extras .

i paid about $2000 for my extended warranty but mine covers up to 100k or 5 years. i already had a water temperature sensor repaired under extended warranty and it was about $350. so
i'm guessing what they are offering is not a GM warranty but who knows theirs might be different.
I just remembered we also go the extended warranty for my dads Cruze but his cover up to 120k and 7 years. it was about the same price but the only difference is my dads cruze was a demo vehicle we bought with 3k miles on it.

Dealers cannot offer a GM warranty, it's always through a third party. Carefully review your coverage (especially roadside and deductibles) before purchasing. Also check to see where your warranty will be honored, if you're on a road trip and something fails you need to know where you can get it taken care of

I'll correct my statement. If at the time of purchase of a new vehicle or certified pre owned it's possible, but after your purchase it's unlikely. Most dealerships offer third party because there's more profit for them.

The way it works if I remember correctly is you have until bumper to bumper runs out to buy the extended warranty from gm.
