Film/Cloudyness of windshield? Anyone else?

I've been having a reoccurring issue with the inside of my windshield getting a cloudy film on it, near the base of the windshield where it meets the dash. I took it in for service and they cleaned it but it keeps re-appearing, I have probably cleaned it with industrial cleaner at least 5-6 times since I bought the car in December. The dealership told me it was an emission of gas from the upholstery? Not sure how realistic that is but its starting to drive me crazy! Has anyone else experienced this? Curious as to if i have some sort of a bad seal on the windshield or if this is normal and really is caused by the seats as the dealer said?

I haven't had this happen to mine but maybe it's the kind of cleaner you use? Not sure if that will do anything though

It's a very light film caused by two things. One, the chemicals in your car being let off by the materials (ie the new car smell). Two, you smoke in the car.

I agree with this. If you smoke, it's not going to go away. If it's the chemicals, it should go away eventually.

Out of curiosity, what climate do you live in?

haven't had this on mine, non smoker and i keep the car really clean. try using just hot water and a clean towel and buff it out a few times. some cleaners do leave a residue.

Im not a smoker and don't allow anyone to smoke in the car...Ive used everything from standard windex/papertowels to having the dealership clean it with industrial cleaner...Keeps coming back. SO bad infact that I can actually see the suction cup rings from when the windshield was initially installed at the GM factory. I live in oregon which is a fairly humid, very rainy climate, but dont leave the windows down or anything if its damp outside, and i keep my interior very clean... This is Driving me nuts!

try windex and non-color newspaper. it will leave it streak and film clear

Being that the film on your windshield is at the base/bottom of the glass, near the dash area; that would indicate that it may be coming from the defroster vents. Depending on what setting you use on your HVAC system would determine how much airflow is directed directly to the windshield. If the atmospheric conditions are humid, and there is particulate matter/pollution suspended in the air, using the defrost mode would cause a deposition of the film to develop as you describe.
Another possibility is that there may be a defect in the heater core, causing a small amount of coolant to leak into the HVAC airbox, and the vapors from the evaporating coolant, circulated and deposited on the windshield by the blower fan. Normally this would emit an odor that you would notice. Also be sure that the drain is clear so that the condensate from the evaporator drains to the ground, and is not building up in airbox.
The more frequently air is directed to the windshield by using the defrost mode, especially during humid conditions, the faster the deposition will accumulate.
I also agree with the other posts about emissions/gassing from the interior plastics and fabrics being present, but one would think that all of the interior glass would have deposits; not predominately originating at the base of the windshield.

The materials in the car is the most likely culprit as Eric said. Sun shade will help but not rid of it. It does not always go away. I have the same problem in mine, non smoker, heat shield sun shade used, but I use invisible glass cleaner. But any good auto glass cleaner will help. Just clean it using a microfiber towel to dry turning often.
