i don't think thats possible in the sonic.. i've only seen that in mini vans and such.

Seat, rear 60/40 split-folding with outboard height-adjustable headrests
I believe the outboard headrests measn there in no middle headrest for the poor sucker sitting in the middle seat...
Is it the Fit that has the lower part of the rear seat flip forward before the seat backs flip down? That way you get a truly flat cargo area.

Just found this in a first drive review:
The Sonic is an economy car, which means sacrifices in creature comforts. The rear seats don’t have an armrest or cup holders, but they are acceptably habitable even behind a six-plus-footer in the driving position. Both Sonic sedan and hatchback share the same 99.4-inch wheelbase. The four-door, at 173.1 inches, is 14.1 inches longer than the hatch but loses in the space race with 14 cubic feet of trunk space to the hatch’s 19. The hatch also has slightly better rear-seat headroom. The cargo area in the five-door, although not as spacious or ingenious as the Honda Fit’s, has a removable false floor that creates a level surface when the seats are folded. There is also a slot for the cargo cover to slide into behind the rear seats.

Touch My Sonic - Trout Love Flat Fold Down Seats
FLAT Fold Down Rear Seats ! ! ! Just one more reason to Go Sonic! The Not Flat Fold Down Rear Seats on my 2005 Cobalt Coupe (great car, by the way) always kind of bothered my sensibilities as to The World As It Should Be vs The Way GM Engineers Made It. But I’m able to live with those slant seats. On the other hand, I can’t wait to tell my cousin Steve about the FLAT Fold Down Rear Seats on the Sonic Hatch! He operates a Trout Farm and supplies Retirement Communities in a 100 mile radius with live trout for Put and Take Trout Ponds (retired Grandpa can take his Grandson to the pond to catch a trout). Steve is always complaining about transporting live trout in his Not Flat Fold Down Rear Seats car because the live trout are all bunched-up back at the trunk lid. They need oxygenated water for the trip to the Retirement Community and the Not Flat Fold Down Rear Seats make it real difficult for him. He always loses a few fish on the trip, esp to customers at the edge of the 100 mile radius. Thought yins would want to know this.

my 2009 jeep liberty rear seats fold flat but it's no an minivan but an suv but still we'll see if the sonic will or not
