Fuel Filler Door/Cap Not Lockable… Even on LTZ

Wow! I found this interesting…

The fuel filler door or cap are not lockable.
Granted, a screwdriver would probably negate this security anyway, but to not have any deterrent on this new car surprises me.

I do see that the fuel filler door was made for a lockable latch… it's just not fitted with one. I wonder why a lockable fuel door wasn't offered as an option?

The filler neck has a screen in it to keep anyone from sticking a hose down it and syphoning fuel from your tank. I try to convey this to my grandfather but he keeps an annoying locking cap on his Suburban. lol

Most new cars do have a syphon block down in the opening... far enough not to be reached by someone trying to pop a hole in the screening (or whatever the block is), but high enough to keep anyone from syphoning fuel.

I'm told my Honda has a block at 2 levels... don't know if that's true or not.

Ever since then, I've always had locking gas caps as a deterrent. Most new cars have locking fuel filler doors. I was really surprised the Sonic doesn't offer this feature, even though the fuel filler door has holes drilled to accommodate a locking feature.

As soon as Stant offers a lockable fuel cap for the Sonic, I'll buy one!

Does anyone research these folk tales? I have never heard of anyone receiving damage from anything poured in the tank that wasn't their own fault.

I also have been looking for a locking gas cap. And yes, even though sugar will not dissolve in gasoline it will clog all filters and orifices it encounters requiring the removal of the gas tank and flushing it out at the very least. Just ask my husband's boss' son who recently paid several hundred dollars and loss of the use of his 2008 Tahoe for several days because of an ex-girlfriend.

Maybe this is common knowledge here, but the new focus does not have a gas cap. At least my rental didn't.there was a label assuring owners that this was intentional. I don't know if this is normal or special for the rentals, but the flapper must have a good seal for them to do this. I really liked notr having the cap and thought it was pretty sweet. However, if gas prices go up again, I'd want to install a locking cap (it was threaded for a cap).

I used to have a locking gas cap on my Mustang (door also doesnt lock). That is until one day the key broke inside the cap on the Mustang. An hour of careful drilling and I was on my way.

That was a fun night.

Looking for a locking gas cap. I've checked all the normal aftermarket automotive parts sites, (Rockauto, NAPA etc). Negative results, anbody have any ideas to find a source, p/n for a locking cap? Thanks.
