Help I Can't Find Struts

Suspension Problems

Took the sonic to a shop since the car has started to creak when I turn the wheel. 144k miles he said to change the struts and front right ball joint. He called around advanced auto parts, autozone, etc. No one has the quick struts he said to get and he said look online since the Stealership will want 300$ a set. But I haven't saw any for my 2012

Well guys I figured I would post a little update. I've already gave this shop close to 2k to fix this problem.

Shop said noise was ball joints. Replaced front ball joints.

Noise still occurred.

Shop said was struts. Replaced struts.

Noise still occurred.

Shop said noise was cv joints/axle replaced fronts.

Car did fine for 2-3 weeks and is now making noise again.

and they replaced the swaybar links with moog ones earlier this year.

I just don't know what suspension part is the problem. It only occurs when turning at slow speeds or taking off too fast its like a popping noise. Sometimes several back to back pops.

Yes, but these are not the quick struts with the coil springs included.
Noise is probably the ball joint or just a general need for lube on chassis. Unless you are planning to keep this car for a while, I would not put money into struts at this point.

So you think just replacing the ball joint should remedy the issues I'm having?

I looked for quickstruts before doing mine and had no luck finding them. I ended up just swapping the springs onto new struts and instead of a ball joint I would recommend replacing the whole control arm....those factory ball joints are riveted on and not an easy task.

I have done the strut replacement on my car for the GMPP lowering kit and it wasn't bad at all, I'd just swap struts if you can't get quick strut assemblies. However, creaking while turning is either a ball joint, tie rod end, sway bar link or strut mount, not the strut itself. I'd have the car properly checked and replace the actual source of the noise before you just throw parts at it. At 145k i'm sure the OEM struts are weak, but they probably aren't the source of your noise.

However, I'd refer you to the previous post. Don't just throw parts at it. For example I've got a little creak in mine just starting to come in and it seems likely to be the sway bar end links, which are a simple, cheap and quick repair.

I took it in and they replaced ball joints $600. But they said I definitely need the struts $1000. I replaced sway bar links with the Moog ones earlier this year.

Now I got another issue. After taking it in they did examine my brakes which I replaced earlier this year and now one of my rotors is making noise as I speed up. not sure what they did when they "examined"

You definitely need to find another shop. Those prices are insane.

I'm NOT a mechanic, but if the CV axles fixed it, then it came back, maybe you got a bad part. Lots of cheap off-shore rebuilt parts out there. Either that or they didn't tighten the ball joints properly when they put on the axles.
