Here we go again, coolant hose burst

The hose between upper radiator and engine (thermostat housing?) burst last night; there was no overheating according to the cluster, like there was when my thermostat went bad last year. However, the steam was epic this time and it looked like my car was on fire...is there usually a mechanical failure that would cause this, or can a hotter than usual engine like ours simply pop a hose?

Update, replaced the hose, replaced coolant, bled air for 10-15 minutes, drove several miles through town, all hoses are hot and coolant level has stayed normal. Crossing my fingers this is really just a burst hose and not the symptom of a bigger problem...

Wow..how many miles. I'm thinking when I have a lot of miles I may replace them all with the Silicone ones. Not sure if they are all accessible without taking off the bumper though.

I've got the DDM silicone hose kit. No need to remove bumper.

My sonic has 141k miles, and i've had to replace multiple hoses. Also you should get your water pump checked out as well. I've had 3 of my coolant hoses go out so far. Easy fix, but yeah its annoying and bound to happen at high milage.
