How long is the hatch trunk?

I saw this sofa bed at a Costco (http://www.costco.com/Emelia-Bonded-Leather-Euro-Lounger---Black.product.100163499.html) and am contemplating on buying it. To my knowledge, Costco warehouse stores don't do delivery, so I'd have to take it home myself. (For some reason, the same exact item is $300 cheaper at the store than online.)

Now my question is: Is the cargo space in the hatchback long/wide enough to transport this piece of furniture? Its specs say that the sofa bed is 70.9 inches long and 34.8 inches wide. I realize that the box that it will come in will be much bulkier than that.

I do know from the dimensions that the overall length of the Sonic hatchback is 159 inches and 68 inches wide.

I just measured the width of the hatch opening, and its more like 31 or 32 inches at the bottom. Actually, I put in a piece of plywood that was 32" x 69". It just fit and stuck out the back of the car by about 5 or 6 inches.

p.s., looking at your link, the length of the sofa is actually 79 inches instead of 70.9 inches.

So, using this data, one can reasonably deduce that the hatch length is 63-64 inches, assuming that the 69 inch part of the plywood represents its length.

For some reason, the specs show 70.9 inches, but in the product description, it does indeed show 79 inches (rounding up would be 80 inches).

Captain Obvious Moment: This sofa will not fit in the Sonic hatchback because the cargo space is too small for it.

You can pick up a pair of cheap cargo racks at Walmart, and a pair of cargo straps, and carry the box on your roof.

I cannot stress highly enough that you absolutely need the cargo straps, and they are not for attaching the box to the racks, they are to hold the entire load down, going over the box and through your front and rear doors.

The walmart racks are fine... but they do not reliably stay on the car. Don't ask.

Just thought of an issue... if you didn't get a shark fin antenna you're also going to have to unscrew the stock rattail. The walmart cargo rack gets your load up over the base, and over the shark fin if you have that, but not up over the rat.

Yup, that's with the wood pushing up against the driver and passenger seat ever so slightly.

You can also put the seats up as far as you can, unless you already account for that
