My stock shift knob started falling apart, because Chevy only sells the full assembly, I first tried to purchase one of those "factory replacement" shift knobs off eBay. The hole for the shaft was too large and just slid right over with no resistance at all, also the whole was too shallow and it was noticeably lighter than the stock shift knob.

I then found this Ryanstar shift knob on amazon. You can flip the collar over to hide the spring for the reverse lockout. I then used electrical tape to cover the screws so it can be removed easily if I need to access the screws. Because of the reverse lockout it does sit about 1.5" taller than the stock shift knob, not ideal but not awful. its comfortable and doesn't require any modification to the car.
