Rather than burying this in my build thread, I thought I'd document things here. I've had many complaints that my bluetooth mic sounds pretty terrible, especially at highway speeds. Since my car is in the body shop for some PDR, I figured I'd take this time to see if I can improve things. The PDR guys had to drop the headliner for the repairs, so I asked them if I could come in and stick some Dynamat on the underside of the roof before they put things back together. I got the call today that they are ready, so tomorrow morning I will go in and do my thing. Unfortunately, funds are too tight to do the entire roof, but I was able to get a good price on 2ft^2 at Car Toys. I will chronicle my endeavor tomorrow, along with pictures, and let you all know how it went. I will also follow up after a few days of phone calls and let you know if it was a waste of $20, or a success. Wish me luck!

After taking a long trip with my sonic I think the dynamat could be used in a lot of places.
Unfortunately I'm too lazy to take my door interiors off .
If anyone knows of some easier places to get to on the sedan than make a big sound difference with dynamat let me know.
I think I read someone sprayed on 3m undercoating on the plastic wheel liners and it helped ?

Well crap. I forgot to take any pics, but I'll try to describe what I did. So, the mic is mounted on the cover you can see on the headliner. Under that is another plastic piece that houses the light. That plastic part is mounted to both the headliner along with 2 screws that hold it directly to metal support just above the windshield. I covered the back side of the upper plastic piece, which took about 1/2 of one piece. I then used the rest on the roof, all the way from the front support back about 18". I get my car back tomorrow, so we'll see if it makes any difference at all.

Did my doors like Hulty and removed the debris shield from the wheel wells and sprayed a few coats of rubberized undercoating. Both made a huge difference! Well worth the trouble.
I've gotten to use it for about a week now, and it seems to have helped some. Note though, I wasn't trying to fix NVH or noise, but just make the bluetooth work better. I think the next thing I might do is look into replacing the mic with something from a nicer car. It's easy enough to try, and there is plenty of room to install something up there.

Show us the way brother! Great idea to pull one from a nicer car. Never thought of that. Any possible wiring conflicts you think?

Agreed. I think I'll start by looking for a Cadillac in the salvage yards. If the headliner is there it should have the mic.

My wife's Encore sounds fine but she complains all the time that it sounds like a wind storm when calling me in the RS. Some of the noise comes from the AC fan. I am going to insulate between the mic panel and the roof to see if that helps. I don't think the mic is the problem. More like lack of sound deadening throughout the car. The Encore has sound deadening everywhere!
