My 2012 Chevy Sonic keeps stalling when I idle

We bought a 2012 Chevy Sonic with 227K on it and everything was running fine. The transmission doesn't seem to want to shift sometimes but besides that it's fine.

But recently my car has been stalling and it's getting to the point where it's not drivable. We changed the tappet cover gasket but there's still oil getting into the spark plug 1 and 2 hole's. There's is exhaust gases going into the coolant reservoir. I'm just hoping it's not a head gasket leak. If anyone can chirp in a give me some help or knowledge that would be great

I know this was from a year ago but curious if you ever got to reply on this I have the same car and a similar issue

At 80,000 MI I noticed a few symptoms which included exhaust in the overflow tank bubbling up
The escape of gas when you open up the overflow tank
And of course the gradual loss of antifreeze mysteriously

When you first turn the key of the ignition it cranks loud but it's almost like the fuel doesn't make it until you do it the second time

My mechanic told me that he strongly thinks it is a head gasket leak

In my case rather than trade in the car for something we can't afford and rather than spending crazy amount of money to fix it I went out and got the blue devil engine gasket sealer which is probably the most conservative of the products

The amount of lost antifreeze is less and while there are still bubbles on the top of the overflow tank there's no more fizz when you open it so it's definitely improved

However as the weather got cold the car did stall twice idling at a light

Unfortunately I probably still have some sort of problem soon to be diagnosed please let me know how you handle your situation!!!
