Numerical song order from USB drive?

Hi,

So I bought a 64gb flash drive to plug into the upper glove box. It plays well. But the only issue I have with it is that when i select a song it ends up sorting the songs in alphabetical order instead of the order that it is played on the CD.

I did find somewhat of a work around though, I used MP3Tag to change all the data stored in the file and added an 01, 02, 03 etc in front of the song name.

Now, when I chose the song via "folder" the songs will be in the proper order.

However, if anyone knows of a way to have the songs in the correct order throughout, please let me know

I'm new here and this is one of the first things I searched for. I'm not sure why no one else is complaining about this, it's a major software oversight in the MyLink system. I have thousands of MP3 files all tagged properly with track numbers and I can't figure out why it would default to playing in alphabetical order. This is the one thing I have found totally unacceptable with the car so far. I guess I will have to rename them like you to get the files to play in the proper order. My files are named by artist-album-track #-song and even my old GM head unit that plays MP3s on CDRs knows to play them in the proper order. I am extremely disappointed in this.

First of all, I have a 2012 without Mylink. Therefore, my suggestion may not apply.

My headunit, however, does default to alphabetical order when playing music from usb.

If I want to play songs from an album, in album order, I have to navigate to the "search" function, then search by album, then select the album that I desire to listen to.

Selecting the music that I want in this manner results in albums playing in album order. Selecting music in any other manner, such as by artist, results in all tracks by that artist playing in alphabetical order.

I suspect that there is a similar method used with Mylink to achieve the desired effect.

Surely, someone with Mylink will chime in to confirm/deny my suspicion and answer your question more fully.

Thanks for the response. On the Mylink there is no way to play when viewing the album list, you have to go into the album tracks and play one from there. I did find an easy work around that was right in front of me. Since I name my MP3s by artist-album-track #-song if I view the folder instead of the album they show in the right order since the track number forces the alphabetical list to sort correctly. Then if I choose the first song in the list they play by track number.

I'm still not sure how this passed testing since to me it is a glaring software glitch. I guess the software team at GM aren't music lovers and are OCD enough that everything has to be alphabetical. It would be an easy fix, maybe someone at GM will wake up and realize this and fix it in the next update.
