Odd Tire Wear

I'll try to get some pics later, but what would be causing the inside of the tires to wear more than the outside? Its only happening on the front two tires, and isn't hiring anything in the wheel well or anything.

The car doesn't seem to have odd camber, it seems pretty normal. The thing I can thing of is that I've had a clunking noise in the front suspension for a while. I took it to the dealership and they never heard it so they sent me on my way.

My 36k warranty is about to be out (sitting at about 34.2k right now) so I'll be taking it back in to get that noise worked out.

Is there a chance the two things are related? What else could be causing odd wear?

The two are possibly related, like say the strut tower/bearing is loose or worn it will allow play which makes noise and throw off tire wear.


Are the inside edges feathered? As in if you rub you hand around the wheel one way and It's smooth and if you rub it the other way It's rough, like shark skin. If so your "toe" is out.

Camber wears smoother and wears a Lil on one edge, more in the middle and most on the other edge (typically the inside edge of the tire).

I'm guessing toe. Try to get an alignment using the warrenty

The clunking could be adding to the tire wear but, I'd say toe is out.

But if the the clunk were to be messing with the suspension then it could be allowing the wear. For instance, ball joints or tie rods could both be making a clunk and allow excess wear on the tire

I'm gonna nominate toe as well. Crazy camber will cause uneven wear over time, but out of spec toe shows up pretty quick.

Not sure what the clunking noise is; but tires wearing more on the inside than the outside is referred to as excessive negative camber. It isn't easy to determine the camber angle by sight; you must use alignment equipment to determine the actual degree of camber. I think that the alignment is warranted prior to accumulating 7500 miles. After that it is the owners responsibility.

I'm taking it in tomorrow to have them check everything, since my 36k warranty is almost out.
